We partner with families, NHS trusts, private healthcare providers, schools, commissioners, local authorities, care providers, and the criminal justice and probation services. We develop strategies for the behaviours of distress that individuals are experiencing to reduce distress and increase overall quality of life.

Positive Behaviour Support and Least Restrictive Practice

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based framework grounded in applied behaviour science, positive psychology, and person-centred values. It is widely recognised in UK health and social care policy as a core approach to reducing restrictive practices and improving quality-of-life outcomes for individuals with complex needs.

Improving Therapy Engagement Through Specialist Behavioural Support

The Challenge

A multidisciplinary team requested specialist behavioural consultation to support an adult with a moderate learning disability who was experiencing significant barriers to engaging in therapeutic interventions. Existing approaches had resulted in inconsistent engagement, leaving clinicians with limited confidence in adapting interventions to meet the individual’s needs.

Supporting a Successful Inpatient Transition Through Positive Behaviour Support

The Challenge

An individual receiving long-term inpatient mental health care experienced significant emotional distress whenever they transitioned between clinical environments. Previous moves had resulted in heightened anxiety, behaviours of distress and disruption to treatment, creating challenges for both the individual and the multidisciplinary team.

“Really good training session, conversation led which allows staff to participate making it less tedious which will increase the likelihood of staff absorbing the information shared”.
Richard, Healthcare Assistant

The most useful part of the training was learning about the S.E.A.T. model and understanding the function of behaviour. It helped me recognise that behaviour is a form of communication and how to identify what a person may be trying to express. I also found the practical examples and person-centred approach very valuable, as they gave me strategies I can use to support individuals more effectively and proactively in my role.

The practical guidance on safely guiding a blind/Partially blind person and communicating clearly and respectfully was the most valuable part of the training. It improved my confidence and awareness.

This was an engaging and informative training session. It has improved my understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and given me practical techniques that I can apply in my role to support people in a respectful, person-centred way. I would recommend this training to anyone working in social care.

“Anne-Marie has been a saving grace to a very desperate mum! My son has been struggling at school and home with his behaviour. Anne-Marie quickly arranged an observation via his school and completed a very thorough report, which was easy to understand, outlining XXXXx personality traits and ways to support him in his development. She has made me feel like finally someone understands and is listening to me. I would highly recommend her services and I’m confident I’ll need her again in the future!”
Sheffield Mum

“Ann-Marie challenged appropriately, supported effectively, explained her reasoning clearly, and persevered with consistency. She gathered evidence, used data, applied her training, and ensured her work remained of the highest professional standard, even when the circumstances around her were complex. What stood out most was her ability to stay calm, clear and person-centred in a room with many people, competing priorities and different pressures. She did not lose sight of the purpose of the work: to support the person well, uphold their rights and dignity, and ensure decisions were based on evidence, professional judgement and what was right for them. That takes real courage. It is not always easy to hold firm to ethical practice and professional boundaries when others disagree or apply pressure. Ann Marie did so with emotional intelligence, clarity and strength. She showed that professionalism is not about being detached. It is about being fair, accountable, evidence-informed and committed to doing the right thing, even when it is difficult. Ann Marie is an asset and an example of the standard we should aspire to. She kept the person we support at the centre, acted with integrity throughout, and demonstrated the kind of courage, professionalism and values-led practice that deserves to be recognised.”
